Tips to  make perfect laundry room

  • Paint the walls and the woodwork in the laundry room white using acrylic paint - it will look fresh and stains can be washed off easily.
  • Opt for a top quality washing machine. A semi-automatic machine might suit you better, as it will do double the work of a fully automatic machine in die same time.
  • Install a stainless-steel sink with running hot and cold water. Let the counter top be granite for easy cleaning and low maintenance.
  • Fit easily reachable, open shelving to store all your laundry essentials. A few pegs on the wall behind the door would also come in handy for hanging laundry bags.
  • If not using a machine dryer, utilise the height of the room space by suspending a clothesline overhead that can be hoisted up out of the way.
  • A fold-down Formica surface can be propped up to fold laundry, treat stains, scrub collars and hems, repair clothes and do the ironing.
  • The room should be well lit with natural or artificial light to make it easier to check for stains.
  • Fix a rod across one wall of the room at an easily reachable height to hang ironed clothes on hangers before shifting to cupboards.
  • To brighten the room, hang floral fabric curtains on the window. Old china plates look great as wall decoration instead of framed pictures which may be ruined by humidity.
