- Chinese food is not served in single portions, but in family-size quantities placed in the centre of a table.
- Wait for the host to serve you with his own chopsticks – it’s a sign of his hospitality.
- Never stick your chopsticks upright in the rice bowl – it is considered extremely impolite.
- Don’t tap on your bowl with your chopsticks – it is considered insulting to the host chef.
- Cross your chopsticks to show the waiter that you have finished and are ready to pay the bill.
- Tea is had between courses to clear the palate of the taste of an earlier dish.
- Make sure the spout of the teapot is not facing anyone. Direct it outward from the table.
