        Between two dogs

  • Dogs with obvious differences tend to get along better. So make sure your pets are of different ages, sizes and sexes.
  • However, if you have a male and a female dog, get them sterilised to prevent frequent and unwanted litters.
  • To establish a hierarchy, snarling and growling between dogs living under the same roof are common. Let your dogs, not you, decide who will dominate.
  • In case the dogs fight aggressively, have the underdog neutered/sterilised.
  • Regular training helps in keeping them under control.
  • Dogs fight over food and treats – never put them in a position where they have to compete for them. And pay equal attention to both to prevent jealousy.

Between two Cats

  • Its best to bring cats home when they are young. Kittens usually don’t have a strong sense of personal territory, unlike adult cats.
  •  But two adult cats can be adopted at the same time so that neither has a head start on the other when it comes to claiming territory.
  • Sterilise them to reduce chances of mutual aggression.
  • Keep their litter boxes in different parts of the house.

Between a dog and a cat

  • Adopt a puppy and a kitten instead of adult cats and dogs.
  • Don’t adopt a kitten if you have an adult dog at home.
  • But if you have a cat, you can bring a puppy home – there will be few problems, if at all.
